The Butterfly Project

The Butterfly Project.

So? What is this all about? Well let me tell you about myself first off. I am a digital designer I have been in the industry for the last 6 years now. I spend most of my days toiling at a computer and sitting around drawing all day long. This has drastically effected my health. I have gained almost 50 LBS in the last 5 years so I am averaging out 10 pounds gained each year. That doesn’t seem like much in a year but what about 5 years from now? I have to make a change now. I try diets and exercise on and off but when work gets in the way I just seem to lose focus after a while and pretty soon all my hard work becomes wasted as I sit in front of my computer and render out some new characters.

So I have been thinking…. My husband is a stock photographer on this site and he has inspired me with a new idea. I would like to become a stock photographer… Not just any stock photographer but a character sheet stock photographer. I want to create a gallery full of turn around poses for any digital designer/artist to use as reference for his or her character sheets.

These sheets will include
Front
Back
Right Side
Left Side
¾ pose

Torso Turnarounds

Portrait Turnarounds

T Poses

They will include my weight and height

Ok so back to my health…. The doctor has told me I have hyper Tension. and that without some sort of life change I may be at a high risk for heart disease, stroke or heart attack. It also runs in my family you see. My work has gotten me into this rut its only right that I use my work to get me out of it.

I always need turnaround references and I feel that as lovely and inventive as some of the stock photographers are on this site I cant seem to find a proper/normal/straight forward turnaround pose to save my life. So I am going to do it. And its not just a project to help out the artistic community but a way that I can get my weight back on track.. I will be posting every 3 pounds lost a new character sheet. I will be doing a variety of characters but it will mostly start off with characters that you would probably see at my weight and height and then as my weight goes down I will be transforming to more stereo typical “beautiful” characters until I finally reach my goal and post my final character sheet which, you guest it, will be a butterfly type character.

I feel like this way not only can I see the progress but I can be held accountable and also that I can have support from the artistic community. Cause I can guarantee that I am not the only chubby artist out there and a lot of you will get where I am coming from.

I hope that this project is a success and that many great concepts can come out of the work done here.

Thank You

and wish me LUCK.

Holly

I swear by my life, and my love of it, that I will never live for the sake of another man, nor ask another man to live for mine.

Very neat idea, but are you shooting your models from the middle of the pose or from eye level?

It's hard to find great turnaround stock, and you have such an excellent goal with the account as well. Good luck, and I look forward to more updates!
